Little boxes on the hillside, little boxes made of ticky-tacky. Little boxes, little boxes, little boxes NOT the same …

 Little boxes

In the new issue of The Bead Book magazine (Issue 43), we included a special insert of the Creative Hobbies.  This insert featured among other things, a wide variety of crafts under the project title “Little Boxes”.

Contributing artists include: Elna Wohlitz and Benice Basson of betweencupcakesandtea.blogspot.com, Lizette Botha, Hannetjie do Santos, Mimmic Gallery and Studio (Pewter) and Mosaics by Lemaryn. When the first completed projects were delivered to the office, it was a like creative pour down!  We were quite taken by the end results.  Our socks were properly knocked off.  The basic premise of the project was to take a wooden blank and try to capture the theme by your own interpretation and to use whichever craft technique you preferred.  The theme we were going for was French inspired vintage.

The level of detail that some of the boxes had was amazing.  Lizette made a miniature haberdashery cupboard (see Little Boxes and other things under Pages for some pictures), with the tiniest of drawers stuffed full of the cutest pieces of ribbon, buttons, bits and bobs.  It was truly inspiring to step back and take them all in at once.  Our fingers itched to get a bunch of wooden blank boxes and go all creative-crazy on them.  To see what the other artists did, get yourself a copy of the latest Bead Book magazine; available from CNA, Spar, Exclusive Books and also – most importantly, your local craft store.
